New Delhi: The fiasco surrounding the Congress party's presidential polls and the emanating political power tussle in Rajasthan from the same doesn't seem to die down anytime soon. After Ashok Gehlot opted out of the race for Congress party's next president yesterday, the Rajasthan CM met with interim party chief Sonia Gandhi in Delhi and 'apologised' for the commotion in Rajasthan politics. As per new developments regarding the said meeting, Gehlot carried a 'secret note' during his meeting with Sonia Gandhi. 'SP will leave the party,' said the 'secret letter' by Gehlot as per Times Now.
'SP' in the said letter is said to stand for Sachin Pilot as Gehlot reminded Sonia Gandhi that Pilot tried to break the party earlier and might do it again. Gehlot referred to the mutiny staged by Pilot in 2020 when he took his loyalist MLAs and camoed in a hotel in a sort of power display.
Meanwhile, sources noted that the Congress high command chalked out a compromise formulae to stabilise the political situation in Rajstha in a bid to keep both, Gehlot and Pilot camp happy. As per sources, Gehlot is set to continue as the CM of Rajasthan post and Pilot might make a return as his deputy. Not only this but key portfolios have also been carved for the Pilot loyalist MLAs in the Rajasthan cabinet, sources added.
On the other hand, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot's supporters continue to be at loggerheads. Pilot supporters gathered at AICC headquarters in Delhi today demanding that he should be made the president of the Grand Old Party. "Pilot knows about problems at the ground level and what the party workers go through. We demand such a leader should be made the party president," said a Pilot supporter.
