Arguably the best pacer in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, is reportedly set to miss the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia over a back stress fracture. Bumrah, who was expected to spearhead India's challenge at the T20 World Cup 2022, has struggled with injuries over the past few months. But now, the news of him sustaining a serious injury has sent Indian cricket fans into a meltdown on social media.
Bumrah earlier missed the Asia Cup 2022, a tournament that saw India failing to even reach the final. The likes of Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Arshdeep Singh, all went for plenty of runs in the tournament as India exited in the Super 4 stage. Bumrah didn't immediately return to the team in the T20I series against Australia as well. The pacer missed the first T20I before making a return in the second.
He featured in the remaining two matches against Australia but was ruled out of the first T20I against South Africa again. Reports suggested that Bumrah had to miss the match in Trivandrum as he wasn't 100% fit. But, on Thursday, a bomb dropped on the heads of Indian cricket lovers as reports of Bumrah being ruled out of the T20 World Cup broke.
Here's how fans reacted to the news:
As for the T20 World Cup 2022, Mohammed Shami was put as one of the standby players for the showpiece event. He is likely to get into the 15-man roster following Bumrah's exit. Mohammed Siraj is expected to replace Shami as India's stand-by player for the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah's likely absence does affect India's hopes for the T20 World Cup 2022 significantly. The Men in Blue currently do not have a pacer of the caliber of Bumrah. The likes of Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, etc. would need to punch above their weight if India are to get their hands on the trophy Down Under.
