Prayagraj: A man who is accused of beating up people for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans was granted a conditional bail by the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday, reported Live Law.
As per the prosecution, the accused, Irfan and some people on his side started abusing people returning home while chanting their religious slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. After objection from the other side, an argument reportedly ensued and the accused side allegedly beat them up with batons, back of country-made firearms, iron rods, and other local weapons.
The accused Irfan was booked under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) under Sections 147, 148, 504, 307, 354 Kha, and 324.
Irfan during his bail application claimed innocence and said he was being framed in the case and he did not beat up anybody. He also said that members from his side had also received injuries, so the case was one-sided and it wasn’t true that only his side beat up the other side.
The High Court granted conditional bail on a personal bond of 50,000 rupees and two sureties.
The accused said that he was in jail since March this year and if the bail is not granted, his future is being affected and the trial is not likely to conclude in the near future so he must be released.
It was also pointed out that other accused in the matter have already been granted bail so he must be too. After this, the court directed Irfan to be released on bail with two sureties.
