The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has warned e-commerce platforms of illegal facilitation and sale of wireless jammers and signal boosters. On July 1, 2022, issued an advisory to the general public and informed them that the use of cellular signal jammer, GPS blocker or other signal jamming device is generally illegal, except it is specifically permitted by the government.

New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has warned e-commerce platforms of illegal facilitation and sale of wireless jammers and signal boosters. DoT while reiterating its stance has advised the public not to purchase or use wireless jammers and signal boosters.
On July 1, 2022, issued an advisory to the general public and informed them that the use of cellular signal jammer, GPS blocker or other signal jamming device is generally illegal, except it is specifically permitted by the government.
According to the government's guidelines, private sector organizations and individuals cannot procure or use jammers in India. It is unlawful to advertise, sell, distribute, import, or otherwise market signal jamming devices in India.
The penal provision is covered under The Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, The Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933 and The IT Act, 2000.
The laws of the land permits only licensed Telecom Service Providers to possess signal boosters and jammers.
DoT earlier in January this year warned all e-commerce companies from selling or facilitating the sale of wireless jammers on their online platforms.
Cellular Operators Association of India, the body that represents private telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea welcomed the government's move.
Lt. Gen. Dr. SP Kochhar, DG, COAI said, "Citizens are unaware that buying, selling, installation and possession of Mobile Signal Boosters (MSBs) is illegal and a punishable offence. MSBs adversely interfere with telecom services.". He further said this advisory will help spread awareness and make citizens cognizant of the debilitating effects that repeaters have on the overall network.
