Tamil Nadu: Suspected food poisoning kills three kids at Tiruppur children's home, 11 others hospitalised

Two children died at Sri Vivekananda Home For Destitute, 12 others were shifted to a private hospital where one more child died. Later, the children were shifted to Tirupur Government Medical College.

Tirupur: In a tragic incident reported from Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu, three children lost their lives and 11 others were hospitalised after suspected food poisoning incident. The incident took place at homes for destitute children at Thirumuruganpoondi in Tirupur city on Thursday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Athish (11), Madhesh (14) and Babu (10). The other sick children have been admitted to Tirupur civil hospital.
Preliminary probe by police reveal that inmates at children's home consumed 'rasam' with rice and sweets on Wednesday night. After sometime, the children felt nauseating and started vomiting early Thursday morning, according to a report in Times of India.
While two children died at the child shelter, 12 others were shifted to a private hospital where one more child died. Later, the children were shifted to Tirupur Government Medical College.
Eleven children and a private security guard identified as 63-year-old Jayaram have been undergoing treatment at the hospital.
After getting information, Tirupur collector S Vineeth, police commissioner and other officials rushed to the hospital.
The collector said the food samples were sent for testing to find the exact cause of the death. He said the preliminary reports suggests food poisoning.
"Stringent action will be taken against the home — Sri Vivekananda Home For Destitute — if found guilty after the inquiry," said S Vineeth.
Police are also investigating and inquiring the persons running the home, reported PTI
