Shopian encounter: Terrorist linked to LeT killed in Baskuchan area of Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: One terrorist linked with the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Baskuchan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.
The terrorist was identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Shopian’s Nowpora Baskuchan, Kashmir Zone Police tweeted. He was involved in several terror crimes and recently escaped from an encounter, it said.
“Killed terrorist identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Baskuchan Shopian, linked with LeT terror outfit,” the tweet said.
It further said the security forces found incriminating materials, arms and ammunitions from the killed terrorist.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammn including AK rifle recovered. He was involved in several terror crimes and recently escaped from an encounter,” it said.
Earlier in the morning, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Baskuchan area of Shopian in south Kashmir after receiving specific input about the presence of terrorists there. While the forces were conducting searches in the area, the terrorists fired upon them. The forces retaliated, which led to the encounter.
On Friday, two local terrorists linked with the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed after an encounter in Baramulla. A joint cordon-and-search operation was launched by police, Army and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) after receiving intelligence input on the presence of terrorists in Yedipora village in the Pattan area of Baramulla district.
In the encounter, two local terrorists linked with the proscribed terror outfit JeM were killed. They have been identified as Yawar Shafi Bhat, a resident of Kalampora Pulwama and Aamir Hussain Bhat, a resident of Veshro Shopian.
Both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and had recently joined the terrorist ranks, as per the police records.
The forces recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including an AKS74U rifle with three magazines, and a pistol with a magazine from the site of the encounter. The recovered materials were taken into case records for further investigation.
