Pune: The city will witness the public Ganeshotsav celebrations in all its glory this year after restricted celebrations in the last two years. A joint meeting of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune City Police, and Ganeshotsav Mandals' representatives will be held on August 8 to discuss pending issues of the public Ganeshotsav Mandals.
Pune’s Ganesh festival has a large number of public boards and a joint meeting is organized by the Municipal Corporation every year. This year’s meeting is important as the public Ganeshotsav is being celebrated after a two-year gap.
A preliminary meeting, chaired by the Municipal Commissioner, was also held on July 12 and the decision for the joint meeting to be held on August 8 was taken.
Public Ganeshotsav mandals in the city are required to acquire licenses every year for various activities and many factors such as locations tend to remain constant for a few years. Therefore, it was demanded that the Jai Ganesh Vyaspeeth of the Mandals should be given licenses for a period of five years instead of having to acquire them every year.
After the Ganeshotsav Mandals brought up the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde who met the workers in Pune on Tuesday, Shinde directed the administration to give a five-year license to the mandals. Moreover, approval for the use of loudspeakers till midnight during the last five days of the festival was also granted.
These points will be further discussed in the August 8 meeting.
Another issue that needs to be tabled is that, unlike each year when the ‘Visarjan’ procession begins by offering wreaths to Lokmanya Tilak’s statue at Mandai, this year the metro project has been undertaken in the region.
Talks will be held about the metro bridge at Khandujibaba Chowk, according which, the height of immersion chariots, arches, and other components will be made.
The meeting will be held in the old Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Auditorium in the main building of the Municipal Corporation at 3 pm. Deputy Commissioner of Anti-Encroachment Department, Madhav Jagtap, has urged that the representatives of Ganesh Mandals should attend this meeting.
