Mumbai: During the Covid fight, Seven Hills Hospital in Marol, Andheri East of Mumbai Western Suburbs was one of the leading BMC hospitals that provides the best facilities to patients at nominal rates.
Now with the Covid numbers decreasing significantly owing to vaccination and immune strength, BJP leader Ameet Satam has demanded that Seven Hills should be converted into a cancer and multi-speciality hospital as per the original plan.
The BJP MLA from Andheri West has written a letter to BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal demanding the same. Satam said that the land where Seven Hills is built was allocated for the purpose of cancer and multi-speciality hospital, and thus same should be done.
He wrote that the BMC needs to take a policy decision in this regard and make more facilities available for the patients.
"During the Covid fight, many hospitals served humanity with utmost dignity and integrity. Seven Hills Hospital in Marol should be rated first with respect to the adequate services that were provided at nominal rates. It was one of the best BMC-run hospitals in Mumbai. However, now the covid numbers are significantly down and eight covid centres are shut. Seven Hills Hospital however is still reserved for Covid patients," excerpts from Satam's letter read.
The BJP MLA from Andheri West highlighted that the Marol plot where Seven Hills Hospital is built was designated for cancer and multi-speciality hospital.
“As per the 2004 resolution, the concerned company had got the approval to convert BMC land in Marol into 1300-bed cancer and multi-speciality hospital. First, only a partial structure was developed with the intention to develop a cancer hospital. Seven Hills Hospital is fully operational now with a proven record of facilities and resources during the Covid fight. Thus, for the benefit of people at large, it should be converted into a cancer and multi-speciality hospital," Satam said.
The BJP leader has requested BMC to work in that direction also mentioning adequate modern facilities that Seven Hills has.
Facilities like a cath lab, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, nephrology, endocrinology, and neurology are available at the Marol-located hospital.
Satam said that with the availability of such modern facilities and adequate resources, Seven Hills can treat patients suffering from serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, kidney, brain, diabetes, thyroid etc.
“The Tata Hospital is the only one that treats cancer patients. It is very overburdened because so many patients from across the state and country come for treatment. Converting Seven Hills into a cancer hospital as per the plan can not only reduce the pressure on Tata Hospital but also make it easier for patients,"
The BJP MLA also opined that BMC should start a medical college at Seven Hills as it has done at KEM, Nair and Cooper hospitals.
