Ludhiana: A man was arrested for allegedly slitting the throat of his wife in Harnam Nagar of Punjab’s Ludhiana on Monday. The accused husband Haseem (25) was suspecting his wife identified as Zareen Ahmad (35) of infidelity, as per The Indian Express.
Deceased Zareen worked as a beautician and visited the houses of her clients. However, her husband used to stop her from going out of the house as he suspected her of infidelity, said police.
Their landlord, Deepak Kumar is the eyewitness to the entire incident. He rushed Zareen to the hospital, where the doctors declared her dead on arrival, and also informed the police about the incident. The accused husband was arrested after the police complaint.
Police said, Haseem worked at a cardboard factory in Jalandhar, around 61 kilometres away from Ludhiana and he used to visit home in Ludhiana on weekends. Haseem was the second husband of Zareen and the couple has a two-year-old son from the marriage.
Deepak Kumar told police that the couple was living on the first floor of his house for the past two years. He told the police that the couple would often fight and Haseem also used to thrash the woman.
At around 9 am on Monday, Deepak heard the woman’s screams and rushed to the first floor to the couple’s house and saw Haseem thrashing his wife.
“He had kept a knife on her neck. Before I could do something, he slit her throat. I screamed for help following which neighbours gathered there and we rushed the woman to the hospital,” Deepak said as quoted by The Indian Express.
Sub-inspector Balwinder Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Model Town police station, said, Zareen was a freelance beautician and used to visit the houses of her customers for work.
“On Monday morning, as Zareen was getting ready to go out for work, Haseem opposed her for the work and started thrashing her. We have called her parents from Saharanpur in UP,” the SHO said.
Meanwhile, a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC has been registered against Haseem at the Model Town police station.
