India August Steel Consumption Rose 13% on Year to 9.3M Tons

India’s finished steel demand climbed to 9.3m tons last month from 8.23m tons during the same period a year earlier, the nation’s steel ministry said on its website.

Crude steel production during August rose 1.7% from a year earlier to 10.3m tons

Exports slumped 66% on year to 454,000 tons

Imports gained about 12% to 442,000 tons, with India shipping in more from China and Japan during the month

In the five months to August:

Crude steel output rose 7.4% on year to 51.35m tons

Finished steel demand climbed 11% to 45.8m tons

Exports fell 53% to 3m tons

Imports rose 4.8% to 2.06m tons
