Patna/Agartala: Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu will on Tuesday visit Bihar and Tripura in order to garner support for her candidature. The Presidential Election will take place on July 18.
"Droupadi Murmu is arriving here on July 5 as part of the campaign. She will have a meeting with MPs and MLAs of the state at a hotel here. We are taking all measures to conduct the election smoothly. A team of the Parliament Secretariat is scheduled to reach by July 16 or 17 to supervise the election process," said Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty.
Notably, the ruling BJP has 36 MLAs in the 60-member Tripura Assembly, the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura has eight MLAs, Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front has 15, and Congress has one.
Murmu will also visit Patna in Bihar on July 5 as part of her campaign for the Presidential Election.
Jibesh Kumar Mishra, the Labour Minister of Bihar, told reporters that Murmu will arrive at 10:00 am and depart at 1:30 pm.
Murmu will begin her tour by garlanding a statue of Birsa Munda, a legendary tribal leader.
Following that, Murmu would meet NDA lawmakers at a hotel in the city before boarding a flight, said Mishra.
The BJP leader further issued an "appeal to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and his Left allies" to back Murmu in the Presidential Elections.
In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal and allies Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, Communist Party of India, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) together have 96 MLAs.
"I can sense that RJD and Left MLAs want to support Murmu. Their leadership should heed the sentiment and avail of the historic opportunity to help a tribal woman reach the top," said Mishra.
A meeting with Janata Dal (United) de facto leader Nitish Kumar might possibly be squeezed into Murmu's tight schedule, news agency PTI mentioned BJP sources as saying.
