Mumbai: A 21-year-old youth was arrested from Bihar on Saturday for allegedly issuing death threats to popular film producer Sandeep Singh on Facebook, informed Mumbai Police on Monday.
The accused identified as Krishnamurari Singh was arrested from Sivan in Bihar on Saturday and was later brought to Mumbai.
The accused had sent a message to the producer on Facebook Messenger on July 6 threatening him that he would be murdered in the same way Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was killed.
Based on the complaint of Singh at the Amboli police station, the cops contacted the Facebook authorities and found the mobile number which was linked to the Facebook profile of the sender, Bandopant Bansode, senior police inspector of Amboli police station said as reported by Hindustan Times.
But as the number was switched off, the investigators then checked call data records associated with the phone number. The accused's location was then traced to the Sivan district in Bihar.
Subsequently, a team from the Amboli police headed by PI Yogesh Pawar left for Bihar. With the help of Jiradehi police in Sivan, they tracked down the accused who was later identified as Krishnamurari Singh.
“The police team laid a trap to nab the accused and waited in the fields behind his house. As soon as Singh left his house, the team of officers intercepted Singh and arrested him on Saturday,” said Bansode adding that they have also recovered the phone which the accused used to send the message.
Police are meanwhile questioning Singh to find out his motive and how did he get the Facebook ID of the film producer, said Bansode as reported by Hindustan Times.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Krishnamurari in his threat message to the producer wrote, "Chinta mat karna, jis tarah Moosawala ko goli maari gaya hai, uss tarah tujhe bhi mara jaayega, wait kar aur yaad rakh." (Don’t worry, the way Moosewala was shot dead, the same way you too will be killed, wait and keep this in mind).
Singh, a resident of Andheri West's Veera Desai Road, went straight to the police and reported the threat. After that, the Amboli police filed an FIR.
Sandeep Singh, who founded the film production company Legend Studious in 2015, has produced Bollywood films such as Mary Kom, Sarbjit, Aligarh, Bhoomi, Jhund, and PM Narendra Modi.
