Abu Dhabi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday landed in Abu Dhabi for a one-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He made the brief stopover concluding his visit to Germany where he attended the G7 Summit and interacted with the Indian diaspora.

In a special gesture, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE received PM Modi on his arrival and also saw him off at the airport later in the day.

After his arrival in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a meeting. This was the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since August 2019 when the Prime Minister visited Abu Dhabi. “PM (Modi) made a brief stopover at Abu Dhabi on his return from Munich today. He called on President of UAE & Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This was the first in-person meeting b/w the two leaders since August 2019 when Prime Minister visited Abu Dhabi last," a Ministry of External Affairs statement said.
“I am touched by the special gesture of my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, of coming to welcome me at Abu Dhabi airport. My gratitude to him,” said PM Modi in a tweet while thanking the UAE President who arrived to receive the PM at the airport in Abu Dhabi.
The main purpose of the visit was for Prime Minister was to convey his personal condolences on the passing away of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who died on May 13 at the age of 73 after a long illness. “The Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as well as family members," said the MEA statement.
During the brief stopover, PM Modi congratulated Sheikh Mohamed on his election as the third President of the UAE and becoming the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
Both the leaders reviewed various aspects of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership which they have carefully nurtured over the past few years, as per news agency IANS.
