Odisha: Disabled man forced to lick man’s feet; video causes outrage online

A shocking video has emerged on Twitter where a disabled man is seen being inhumanely tortured by two people and forced to lick the feet of one of them. The video has elicited shocked responses from Twitter users who have been demanding strict action against the culprits and questioning how civilised we really are.

Mayurbhanj: A shocking video has emerged on Twitter where a disabled man is seen being inhumanely tortured by two people. In the video, one of the perpetrators is seen threatening him with a stick while the other person holds his bare feet close to the victim’s face. The incident took place at a drug de-addiction centre in Mayurbhanj, as reported by NDTV.
The disabled man is also seen crying and pleading with the perpetrators to stop however, the man with the stick threatens him with dire consequences if he fails to obey. The helpless victim then licks the feet of the other person following which he tries to clean his tongue but the accused persons grab the victim’s hair and force him to repeat the demeaning act a few times, as reported by NDTV.
The video has elicited shocked responses from Twitter users who have been demanding strict action against the culprits. Many have termed the accused as savage and questioned how civilised we really are as a country.
"Everyday one or the other such videos emerge from different parts of our country and we call ourselves a civilised nation with thousands of years of history etc Ashamed of that history if this is the way we treat our own," a user said on Twitter, as reported by NDTV.
The Superintendent of Police (SP), Mayurbhanj, tweeted that the incident took place last year and that a case has been registered in this regard. "We have duly registered a case in this regard and both the accd persons have been arrested and will be forwarded to the court. Concerned authorities are being moved to close these de-addiction centres. It is also stated here that this is a year-old incident," said the tweet from Mayurbhanj SP, as reported by NDTV.
KK Hariprasad, the sub-divisional police officer, Baripada (Mayurbhanj) has said that the incident took place in July last year and the two men seen in the video have been arrested.
"A case has been filed against the under sections 341 (wrongfully restraining a person), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by a weapon or substance), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 of the Indian penal Code (IPC)," he added.
Many Twitter users were appalled at the crime and also questioned why it took the authorities more than a year to take action in the case, reported NDTV.
