New Delhi: The special staff of the South district apprehended a woman and her daughter-in-law for allegedly stealing a woman's gold chain earlier this month during a 'Kalash Shobha Yatra'.
The 55-year-old woman was recognised after being captured on CCTV. She is a known felon from East Delhi's Kalyanpuri neighbourhood. A police e-beat book contained all of her information.
A senior police officer said, "Rekha has a history of criminal behaviour and has been listed as a criminal (bad character) with the Kalyanpuri police station. Rekha was detained for the first time in 2002 at the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station for snatching; she has seven incidents of snatching and theft to her credit. Her missing daughter, who is also involved, is being sought by police at this time."
The incident occurred on September 6, during a 'Kalash Shobha Yatra' in the Ambedkar Nagar area.
Vases were being carried by women on their heads. After some time, the two of them realised that their gold chains had been discovered missing. They subsequently filed two FIRs, and the South District Special Staff also got to work, according to a senior police officer.
A team led by Inspector Atul Tyagi searched through more than 100 CCTV cameras during the investigation and discovered two suspicious women standing close to both victims by concealing their faces. Based on CCTV footage, the team began pursuing the suspects' backward and forward movements.
