Chennai: DMK president and Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Tuesday stressed that his party will not compromise with its ideology and never merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
He also acknowledged a relationship between a State and and the Centre but added that parties at the helm doesn't have to necessarily share a relationship.
While addressing a gathering at an event, MK Stalin said, "Am I going to Delhi to fold my hands and sit to hear their (Govt) orders? I am Kalaignar's son. As the CM of Tamil Nadu, I have the responsibility to get schemes for the people of the state by speaking with the Union Government."
"There is a relationship between the State and Union Government and not between DMK and BJP. There is no relationship between the party's ideologies. I will never compromise with DMK ideology under any circumstance," he added.
Talking about his party's alliance with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), he said, "We are (VCK & DMK) together even after winning elections. This is not election friendship. Elections come and go but ideology stays. No one can separate us. This is the govt to fulfill Periyar wishes."
"DMK is strong in its ideology. We won't do any compromise with BJP and RSS," he said.
Stalin's remark comes against the background of the inaugural of the FIDE 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai on July 28, in which he shared the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A perception emerged among a section of people that there was bonhomie between the two leaders.
