Thane: In yet another man-animal conflict, a one-month-old infant sustained grievous injuries after a monkey attacked the child on the premises of the Shil-Daighar police station in Maharashtra’s Thane on Sunday morning.
The mother of the child had visited the police station over a petty domestic feud. In the meantime, the monkey strayed into the police station and attempted to snatch the baby girl from the mother. The child has sustained five stitches on her head.
A police officer told The Times of India (TOI) that the woman was waiting outside the station house when the monkey came into the police station and was frightening people.
“Then the monkey rushed to the mother of the child. Though she tried to shoo it away, the monkey tried to snatch the child away from her,” said the police officer.
In the conflict between the two, the monkey's palm scratched the child on her head as a result of which she started bleeding. The injured child was then rushed to a nearby hospital by her mother.
Speaking to TOI, the mother said, "I got scared as the monkey was coming towards me. However, I somehow managed to hold it back from my child by holding her tightly. Otherwise, the monkey would have taken her somewhere. Thankfully, my child is with me and her condition is stable."
Though the cops present at the police stations tried to disperse the monkey it turned aggressive as soon as someone tried to scare it, reported TOI.
Following this, the officials of the Shil-Daighar police station alerted the forest officials, who rushed to the scene and managed to catch the money. The police believe the monkey may have escaped from a rescue centre close to the police station.
