Bengaluru: The Bengaluru civic body has extended the last date to apply for various welfare programmes under the municipal corporation. The last date for applications to avail subsidy of Rs 5 lakh for house construction on own plots, free laptops for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, smart sticks for blind persons, educational laptops for blind students and foldable wheelchairs for senior citizens was September 19. Now the BBMP decided to extend it up to October 19.
"We have decided to extend the deadline for applying various welfare schemes under the corporation to next month. Now more people will be able to apply for the schemes," a senior civic official said.
Beneficiaries have to submit the applications online by visiting the corporation's website https://welfare.bbmpgov.in. Though no fee will be required for the process, the Bangalore One facility centres will levy Rs 30 as a service charge. The BBMP has set up help centres in the office of the Joint Commissioner of all zones where applications can be submitted, the officials said.
Under the housing programme for the poor, those who have land within the corporation limit will get 5 lakh for the construction of the house. The government has set a target of constructing one lakh houses in Bengaluru. With the free laptop scheme, graduate and postgraduate students from economically backward sections will be provided with laptops for their educational purposes. Students of both government and aided colleges are covered in this scheme. For blind students, Braille script-enabled laptops will be given.
Blind persons who need walking sticks and those who are in need of wheelchairs can also apply for them under the corporation's welfare schemes.
