  • In the meantime, senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy and several party MLAs arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening to attend the TRS' general body meeting
Hyderabad: A report on Tuesday suggested that Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) might be renamed 'Bharata Rashtra Samiti (BRS)'. News agency PTI mentioned TRS sources as saying that Telangana's welfare schemes would be showcased across the country to help the party become a national force.
It is expected that TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, will announce the party's new name on Wednesday, considered auspicious in light of Vijayadasami.
By renaming itself and pitching its 'Telangana good governance model', the party is seeking to foray into national politics and effectively challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party.
PTI mentioned sources as saying that the TRS general body meeting scheduled for Wednesday at Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters, will pass a resolution effecting the name change.
In accordance with the Representation of the People Act and relevant regulations, the Election Commission would be informed of the change. To reach out to people across the country, the party would highlight welfare schemes being implemented in Telangana like 'Rythu Bandhu' and 'Dalit Bandhu'.
According to sources, the name change would be communicated to the Election Commission by e-mail and then in person on October 6.
Meanwhile, an official release from K Chandrashekar Rao's office did not mention the agenda, it is expected that the TRS president will reveal the details of his approach towards national politics to the rank and file of the party.
"The Chief Minister reiterated that, as announced earlier, the party general meeting will be held at 11 am on October 5 in Telangana Bhavan. Leaders are requested to attend the meeting within the specified time," it said.
