New Delhi: In light of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will on Thursday chair a review meeting with the core team of experts, a report said on Wednesday.
News agency ANI has mentioned sources as saying that the meeting will take place in physical format on Thursday afternoon.
Mandaviya had earlier convened a meeting on June 13 to review the progress of HarGharDastak 2.0, a vaccination exercise being conducted in states and union territories (UTs).
"COVID is not over yet. There are reports of rising cases of COVID in some states. It is important at this time to be alert and not forget COVID Appropriate behaviour (CAB) such as wearing masks and maintaining physical distance to prevent the spread of the infection", he had emphasised.
While noting a rise in COVID-19 positivity rate and reduced COVID-19 testing in certain districts and states, Dr Mandaviya had stated that timely and increased testing will ensure early identification of cases and curb the spread of infection within the community.
To identify new mutants or variants in the country, he had urged states and UTs to continue the surveillance and focus on genome sequencing. According to him, states/UTs should continue and monitor the five-fold strategy of Test, Track, Treat, Vaccination, and Adherence to Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB).
It was also suggested that states focus on the implementation of the Operational Guidelines for Revised Surveillance Strategy for COVID-19, which emphasises surveillance of incoming international travellers and surveillance through health facilities, labs, and community.
To ensure that the COVID vaccination campaign is reaching the vulnerable age groups, Mandaviya had asked the State Health Ministers to regularly review the progress of the month-long Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 campaign that began on June 1.
"Let us accelerate our efforts to identify all beneficiaries in the 12-17 age group for the first and second doses, so they can attend schools with the protection of the vaccine," Mandaviya had said.
