CWG 2022: Nitu Ghangas wins India's first gold in boxing, dominates England's Resztan in final

Commonwealth Games 2022: Nitu Ghangas won the gold medal in the women's 45kg-48kg (Minimumweight) category as she beat her English opponent Demie-Jade Resztan by an unanimous decision in the final. Nitu helped India get their first gold in boxing out of the four medal contenders on Sunday.

Nitu Ghangas helped India win their first gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham in boxing as she dominated her England opponent Demie-Jade Resztan in all three rounds in the women's 45kg-48kg (Minimumweight) category final. Nitu, who was coming off from exceptional wins in the quarters and semis, won the gold by unanimous decision in the final.
Nitu used her combination punches to the fullest in the first round but Resztan too wasn't backing down that easily. She won the first round 4-1 and even though she was leading, she knew that she had to work hard but in the second round she just didn't give a single chance to Resztan. She took the second round 5-0 and it seemed like she was on course for a massive gold medal win.
In the third round, it was similar as Nitu proved to be just too good for her opponent as she won the bout by a unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

Nitu won her quarter-final bout by ABD (Abandon) when her Northern Ireland opponent Nicole Clyde dropped out in the third and the final round. In the semis, Nitu was exceptional as the match lasted for just 90 seconds. The bout didn't go beyond the second round as she won via referee's stoppage.
This was India's first gold in boxing after Jaismine Lamboriya and Rohit Tokas won bronze following their semi-final loss in their respective categories, while 42nd medal overall at CWG 2022. India's Amit Panghal wasn't too far behind as he too won a gold medal in men's flyweight category beating England's Kiaran MacDonald.
India have a couple of more medal hopefuls in the finals as Nikhat Zareen will take on Carly McNaul of Northern Ireland in the final of light flyweight category while Sagar will be in the final of super heavyweight category against England's Orie Delicious.
