A recent discourse that has been rocking the Indian film industry is the North vs South debate. Many actors have put forwards their views on the pressing discussion. While Kangana Ranaut had expressed, she feels south Indian films work better because they are “deeply rooted in their culture,” Akshay Kumar had revealed he doesn’t like when people make this distinction between north and south cinema.
More recently superstar Kamal Haasan shared his thoughts on the matter while promoting Vikram. The actor said, "I am an Indian, what are you? For me, the Taj Mahal is mine and the Madurai temple is yours. Kanyakumari is as much yours as Kashmir is mine." And now, his daughter Shruti Haasan, who will soon be seen opposite Prabhas in Prashanth Neel's Salaar has weighed in on the debate as well.
In an exclusive interaction with Times Now, daughter of Kamal Haasan and Sarika, Shruti says, “I am really a product of North and the South. I have grown up in a multilingual home.”

The actress adds, “I have had the privilege of growing up watching two artists navigate different languages and industries.”
Shruti spoke about how she saw her parents working in different industries. “My mum has worked outside of Hindi, my dad has worked outside of Tamil, which is their root industry and they have done such an amazing job of navigating, because art has no language.”
Shruti opines, “I have always been hearing for years now, k aap South ki actress ho, I find it funny because I have been living in Mumbai for 15 years. I travel back and forth. I love dal chawal as much as I love sambar rice. For me I have never found it to be a really challenging, except for when people say, why don't I do more Bollywood, but I am just going where I am getting the work I want to do.”
“It is just wonderful to see everyone just come together and appreciate each other. I don’t think the rift is that big anymore and that is how it should be because, when I am abroad, people just say Indian movies is so cool and all of you shake your head when you speak. It was just funny that we are dividing it internally. Good work is just good work at the end of the day,” she signs off.
Meanwhile on the work front, apart from Salaar, Shruti has a film with Chiranjeevi lined up and one with Balakrishna – roles so varied from each other that the actress confesses was the reason behind taking them up.
