Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who has completed 30 years in the industry, is hailed as one of the most disciplined actors. The fact that Khiladi Kumar comes out with three to four releases every year is a testament to how dedicated he is to his work.
Known for wrapping up films faster than most other actors, Akshay has had two releases in 2022 thus far - Bachchhan Paandey and Samrat Prithviraj. However, since both films had an underwhelming run at the box office, there has been some chatter around whether Akshay could have given more time to some of his recent films.
Recently, during the promotions of his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, R Madhavan spoke about how the audience shies away from movies that have been completed in a lesser number of days. Citing the success of Pushpa: The Rise and RRR, Madhavan said that actors of these blockbusters took over a year to complete the shoot.
While Madhavan didn’t take any names, his statement was perceived to be an indirect dig at Akshay.
At the song launch of Raksha Bandhan, Akshay was asked to react to Madhavan’s remark. The 54-year-old actor said, “Kya kehna chahunga? Bhai meri filmein khatam ho jaati hain main kya karoon? Main is mien thode hi kuch…meri filmein khatam ho jaati hain. Ek director aata hai kehta hai bhaiya aapka kaam khatam aap ghar jaaiye. Toh ab main ussey ladoon? (What can I say? If my film gets over in a short time what can I do? If a director comes and tells me that my work on a film is done and I can go home, what should I do? Should I fight with him)?”
Adding to Akshay’s response, his Raksha Bandhan director Aanand L Rai stated that people usually focus on the number of days but they have no idea how many hours of work he puts in daily for those 40-45 days.
Also starring Bhumi Pednekar, Raksha Bandhan is slated to release on August 11. On the other hand, Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect has hit the screens and is getting rave reviews.
