Hyderabad: Amid furore over suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh's remarks against Prophet Muhammad, the AIMIM has called for his arrest and expulsion from the Telangana Assembly.
"BJP and their MLA T Raja Singh issued a video expressing their hate against Prophet Muhammad. The prophet lives in the hearts of Muslims. We will continue our protests till this MLA is arrested,' said AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Earlier in the day, AIMIM legislator Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri had written a letter to Telangana Assembly Speaker P Srinivas Reddy requesting him to initiate expulsion proceedings against BJP Floor Leader T Raja Singh for his alleged comments on Prophet Mohammad.
Raja had been suspended from the BJP earlier this week, with the party stating in an official communique that his remarks were against the party's line.
The controversial lawmaker had been arrested by the Hyderabad yesterday amid protests over his alleged remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammad in a video which was later pulled down by the social media platform. Produced in a local court on Tuesday he was granted bail hours after his arrest.
A tense situation had prevailed in the old city on Tuesday night as hundreds of people took to streets after Singh was granted bail. Carrying black flags and raising slogans, protesters gathered at the historic Charminar, Madina circle, Barkas, Chandrayangutta, Chanchalguda, City College, Afzal Gunj and other areas. The agitation had turned violent in some places, prompting the police to resort to baton charge to disperse the protesters who were burning tyres on the roads.
The protest continued on Wednesday with calls for stringent action against the controversial MLA. Some of them were seen carrying national flags.
