TV actress Donal Bisht is all set to feature in her upcoming web series, Zakhm. The diva is not leaving any stone unturned to shine in the web show. Let us tell you, she has already started working on the same and is looking forward to seeing the audience’s response once it gets released.
Donal is playing the role of a psychologist in Zakhm. Well, it is indeed a challenging role for her. After all, we have seen several actresses choosing unconventional characters and leaving everyone spellbound with their powerful performances. Recently, in an exclusive chat with Zoom TV Digital, Donal Bisht shared her thoughts on women choosing unconventional roles on OTT.
The actress said, “According to me, web series have brought in a breath of fresh air from the idealistic portrayal of women that was force-fed to the audience. They represent women in their truest, baddest, boldest, say-it-like-it-is avatar and it has worked brilliantly well. It is real, unfiltered and unabashed. So while the roles may be unconventional because they've been done before, the representation is real, apt and largely empowering. So clearly it is scoring better than one would have ever imagined. More than anything, I feel like every real-life woman out there loves watching herself on her smart screen while exposing the hypocrisies in the system. We want to romanticize women in "fantasy" roles in our heads but don't want to watch and discuss them in public… web series is changing that notion. It has opened avenues to spotlight true sides and stories of the real women out there.”
Apart from that, Donal Bisht also opened up about dealing with trolls on social media. After all, many celebs have gone through the trauma of social media trolling. While speaking about dealing with such negative comments on social media, the Bigg Boss 15 contestant said, “I have borne the brunt of it and while it did affect me initially, it has eventually become a part and parcel of life. My family would also get anxious early on and would bombard me with calls, each time they came across a troll-fest targeted at me. But now we've all become immune to it. Haters are gonna hate and yes there is a lot of frustration in the world out there and if I could be a vent for someone, so be it! Also, I chose this life and have come to terms with the reality that I cannot pay heed to everyone and everything. I choose mental peace over mindless sleaze. And yes, as long as I have my people by my side, no troll can tear me or dampen my spirit.”
Donal is known for her outspoken nature, and she speaks what is her in mind. She recently watched Brahmastra and loved the film. The actress praised the performances, direction and most especially, Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo in the film. For the unversed, Brahmastra was highly trolled by haters on social media.
Many netizens had even asked people to boycott Brahmastra. When asked if the boycott trend is affecting the business of Bollywood films, Donal Bisht said, “No, I don't think so. Brahmastra is an example of how a good offering will cut through the boycott trend. The viewer today is most concerned about the experience. So yes, driving out of the home to the big screen demands a big offering and a value proposition, and if films are able to bring that to celluloid, they surely can withstand the brickbats. Having said that, even filmmakers need to realize that there is no room for mediocrity and the consumer cannot be fooled or compromised with. Positive word of mouth is your best agent to promote a film.”
While concluding her chat with us, Donal Bisht expressed her wish to share screen space with Salman Khan. She also said that Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are her favourite directors.
