“Hello everyone, with deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023. Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks. We’re working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days. To everyone in Brazil who was looking forward to these concerts, we’re extremely sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we’re so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritise Chris’ health,” read the statement on Instagram.
“Please hold onto your tickets as they will be valid for the new rescheduled dates. These will happen in early 2023 and will be announced very soon. However, we will also honour all requests for ticket refunds - which will be available at the point of sale. We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour as soon as possible. To everyone affected, please accept our sincere apologies, and thank you as always for your love and support,” it concluded.
Causes of lung infections
Little does one realise how important lung health is until the central part of the respiratory system goes for a toss – develops an infection or suffers inflammation or any other factor. The body does have a natural defence system to protect the lungs and keep germs and dirt at bay to reduce the risk of infections and diseases.
According to the American Lung Association, there are some habits that can make the condition of the lungs worse, such as:
  1. Exposure to indoor and outdoor pollutants – air pollution
  2. Not wearing an N95 mask when smog and air pollution levels are high
  3. Smoking
  4. Overlooking respiratory disorders, cold, flu, cough and sore throat
  5. Not working out regularly
Tips to keep lung infections at bay
  1. Avoid crowded areas during cold and flu season
  2. Keep your distance from people around when you are down with an infection
  3. Get vaccinated for influenza every year
  4. Maintain good oral hygiene – brush your teeth twice a day and see the dentist once every six months
  5. Wash your hands regularly with water and soap
