Mumbai: Cyber-fraudsters defraud woman of Rs 3.54 lakh under pretext of online sales job

The scammers reportedly urged the woman to invest in items online and receive a commission in addition to the money invested. According to the FIR, the victim was reportedly sent a text message that asked her to contact a number if she wants “Rs 5,888/- Per Day as a part-time Job.”

Mumbai: A 43-year-old jobless lady in Mumbai was allegedly defrauded by a cyber-fraudsters, who contacted her through text message and offered her a sales job. The scammers reportedly urged the woman to invest in items online and receive a commission in addition to the money invested.
According to a report by The Indian Express, on August 8, the Borivali police station filed an FIR. The woman informed cops that she worked as a shop manager and is currently unemployed.
According to the FIR, the victim was reportedly sent a text message that asked her to contact a number if she wants “Rs 5,888/- Per Day as a part-time Job.”
When the complainant called the number, the cyber-fraudster posing as a private firm executive requested for her personal information and job experience. The individual informed her that he works for an online shopping platform and she will be required to conduct an "Online Commodity Sale." The woman was persuaded to 'register' by filling out a form and was connected to a Telegram group, The Indian Express reported.
The complainant was offered instruction on Telegram by one Reetedh Sharma on 'how to make and withdraw money' and how to enhance commodity sales. She was instructed to purchase a waist belt for Rs 160 using her ICICI bank account and Rs 240 were deposited into her account within minutes.
The woman was enticed by the rapid money-making business and ended up spending Rs 3.03 lakh on 14 things such as face cream, t-shirts, shoes, phones, bracelets, and so on. She called Sharma, who informed her that the funds were being stored in her company's account and encouraged her to continue investing.
