Thinking of taking an Airbnb for a house party? Well think again and replan as Airbnb has changed its official policy to ban house parties.
In 2020, Airbnb had introduced a temporary ban on house parties and disruptive events in view of the pandemic and social distancing norms at the time. However, the company found the temporary ban to be very effective and has officially codified the ban as its official policy.
“The ban has been well received by our Host community and we’ve received positive feedback from community leaders and elected officials. As we build on this momentum, we believe the time is right to codify this policy.” Airbnb
Airbnb has banned “open-invite” parties along with “disruptive parties” which becomes a neighborhood nuisance. “Party house” properties will continue to be strictly prohibited as well. However, with no more lockdowns in sight, the company has lifted the 16 person cap for listings that can house over 16 people at once.
Airbnb plans to strictly implement the party ban, “In 2021, over 6,600 guests were suspended from Airbnb for attempting to violate our party ban. In these cases, we also work to support our Hosts with property damage protection.” Says Airbnb. For violators, the consequences will range from account suspension to complete removal from the platform.
The platform has implemented several new ways to enforce the “party ban” these include anti-party reservation prevention, special holiday anti-party measures, a 24-hour safety line, our Neighborhood Support Line, and a partnership with Vrbo to share information on repeat “party house” offenders in the US.
