Ahead of Akshay Kumar-starrer Raksha Bandhan release in theatres, netizens call out the film for a boycott after the movie’s screenwriter, Kanika Dhillon’s old controversial tweet went viral on social media. The netizens started to trend the hashtag #BoycottRakshaBandhanMovie.
The netizens have claimed that Dhillon's tweets were 'Hinduphobic' and 'hurt the religious sentiments of people' and hence, they will boycott the film.
In the old tweet, Kanika said that cow urine doesn't cure Covid-19. In several old tweets, she took potshots at the government. Some netizens even claimed that Kanika has repeatedly attacked Hindu beliefs and religious sentiments.

Meanwhile, Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan also became the target of trolls. The social media users trended the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha. Apparently, Aamir 2015 controversial statement about "India's growing intolerance" was once again circulated on social medoa.
Back in 2015, Aamir had said, "Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will."
Aamir Khan reacted to the trend and said in a press conference, "Yes, I feel sad. Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their heart, they believe that I am someone who doesn't like India. In their hearts they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. That's not the case. Please don't boycott my film. Please watch my film”
Meanwhile, Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha, both will release in theatres on August 11 and will have a box office clash.
This is Akshay Kumar's third release of the year after Bachchan Pandey and Samrat Prithviraj. He also has Ram Setu, OMG 2, Mission Cindrella, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Gorkha, among others in his pipeline.
