Mahua Moitra on Tuesday sparked a row saying she has every right as "an individual to imagine Goddess Kaali as a meat-eating and alcohol-accepting goddess", as every person has the right to worship god and goddess in his or her own way."

The Trinamool Congress MP has refused to apologise for her comments. She slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that she doesn't want to live in an India where BJP’s monolithic patriarchal brahminical view of Hinduism will prevail.
Mahua Moitra has dared the BJP to file cases against her. She said, "I will defend this till I die. File your FIRs - will see you in every court in the land."
The BJP has accused Krishnanagar MP of hurting religious sentiments of Hindus with her contentious remarks. Moitra's party Trinamool Congress also distanced itself from the comment and condemned it.

Mahua Moitra faces an FIR against her in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly "outraging religious feelings". West Bengal BJP MLA from Siliguri, Shankar Ghosh, also lodged a complaint against her for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments.
