'Congress in Rajasthan is a done deal': Amid political row, BJP leader Sunil Jakhar draws parallel with former Punjab govt

Sachin Pilot is being seen as the successor of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is all set to contest the Congress president election scheduled on October 17. Gehlot loyalists want someone from their own camp to be chosen as the next Chief Minister instead of Pilot.
New Delhi: As the Rajasthan political crisis continues, senior politician Sunil Jakhar opined that the Opposition party was headed towards its downfall. The former Congress leader who recently joined the BJP also drew a parallel with the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government.
"This problem in Rajasthan has been simmering since Ashok Gehlot was made CM and Sachin Pilot was made his deputy. It was not something either party wanted. Then in 2020 when the so called rebellion took place...I think that was the time when people should have taken note," he opined.
"Nobody bothered...they tried to brush the situation under the carpet as has been the wont of the Congress party. Things should have been handled at the time. Now it has become a chronic disease that requires major surgery," Jakhar reminded.
Ahead of Sunday's political upheaval the now BJP leader had taken to social media wondering who would be the "Channi of Rajasthan" - a reference to Punjab CM Charanjit Channi who had replaced Singh amid infighting.
"The will of chosen MLAs won't be taken into consideration, just like it happened in Punjab. The script is being followed to the T...I heard that Gehlot will be issued a show cause notice. No person with a bit of dignity, who has stood by Congress will take this," he added.
Pilot is being seen as the successor of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is all set to contest the Congress president election scheduled on October 17.
A legislative party meeting was scheduled on Sunday evening at the residence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the presence of the observers, which was attended by Sachin Pilot and his camp MLAs.
However, the Gehlot loyalists had held a meeting with Cabinet Minister Shanti Dhariwal at his residence, following which over 90 MLAs had submitted their resignations to Speaker CP Joshi. The Gehlot loyalists want someone from their own camp to be chosen as the next Chief Minister instead of Pilot.
