Not many Bollywood actors have a filmography as diverse as Akshay Kumar’s. From action flicks and masala entertainers to comedy films and social dramas, Akshay has dabbled in various genres over the years and has given successful films in each.
Last seen in Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s Samrat Prithviraj, the superstar spoke about his future plans at a recent event. Akshay, who was the chief guest at the book launch of Hindujas and Bollywood at the Institute of Directors at Pall Mall in central London, was asked whether he intends to join politics moving forward.
To this, Khiladi Kumar said that he is very happy doing films at the moment and that he tries to address multiple social issues with his big-screen outings. "I am very happy making films... As an actor, I do whatever possible to take up social issues. I have produced 150 films, the one nearest to my heart is Raksha Bandhan,” Akshay responded.
He further stated that he tries to do his bit for society through his movies. "I produce commercial films, sometimes with social issues. I produce three-four films a year," added the 54-year-old actor.
In his next release, Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan, Akshay has taken up the long-prevailing issue of dowry. In fact, at the trailer launch event of the film, Akshay had said it will also provide a solution to the wrongful system.
“While doing films, I just don't speak about the problem. I also look for solutions. There is a solution in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Padman and many more. Likewise, there is a solution to Dahej (Dowry) in this film (Raksha Bandhan). There is an answer to what we, and our society, should do. The film will give the solution to the problem,” Akshay had said.
Also starring Bhumi Pednekar, Raksha Bandhan is slated to hit the screens on August 11. Post that, Akshay will be seen in Abhishek Sharma’s Ram Setu, which will be out on Diwali.
