Delhi: Man arrested for cheating Sikh priest on pretext of ‘kirtan’ opportunity in US

Delhi: A 51-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly cheating a Sikh priest lakh on the pretext of providing a 'kirtan' opportunity in the US, police said on Tuesday.
The accused man identified as Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Indore in Madhya Pradesh extorted Rs one lakh from the priest promising him a kirtan job opportunity in America.
Ten mobile phones, 11 debit cards, and some documents have been recovered from his possession, police added as reported by TOI.
Baldev Singh, a head 'granthi' in a gurudwara lodged a police complaint alleging that the accused contacted him on WhatsApp for a kirtan opportunity in marriages and other cultural occasions in various cities of the United States.
The complainant agreed to the job and as asked, transferred Rs 1.25 lakh to the man for visa and money exchange charges, Yadav said in his statement.
"We have registered a case and started an investigation. The technical analysis of call details and money transactions showed that the suspect was operating from various locations in Indore," a police official said.
Yadav was arrested following a raid on Saturday, said DCP (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi as reported by TOI.
