New Delhi: Independent Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana on Saturday recited Hanuman Chalisa in front of the Amravati residence of Umesh Kolhe, who was brutally killed on June 21 for posting social media messages in support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma.
Amravati MP Navneet Rana told reporters that the killers of Kolhe should be hanged in public so that no one will dare to repeat such a crime in the country.
She also requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to set an example in the case.
Earlier, Navneet Kaur Rana and her husband, Ravi Rana, had said that the alleged mastermind was not linked to their party.
Kolhe (54) was attacked with a knife by a group of three men between 10 pm and 10:30 pm on June 21. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment in hospital.
As per the police, the chemist had put out a post on social media in support of Nupur Sharma, who made controversial comments on Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate in May.
The National Investigation Agency had taken over the probe in the case from the Amravati police on July 5.
On Friday, the NIA claimed that the pharmacist was killed with the intention of instilling fear among a section of people supporting the former BJP spokesperson over her controversial remark about Prophet Muhammad.
In its FIR lodged in connection with Kolhe’s killing, the investigating body termed the crime an “act of larger conspiracy” to frighten people supporting the suspended BJP leader.
It did not rule out the possibility of the accused having international links.
On Wednesday, the central agency conducted searches at 13 locations in Maharashtra which led them to the recovery of incriminating documents.
A special court in Mumbai had, on July 7, sent the seven accused in the case to NIA custody till July 15.
