Ahmedabad: A pillar of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro rail project under construction at the Thaltej area of the city leaned over on Tuesday night. Locals and other people present at the spot saw the metro pillar in the area bending almost 45 degrees and hitting the building adjacent to it.
As per an official of the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) there were no fatalties in the incident, as the construction site has cranes and other equipment to take care of such problems. He added that the falling structure was rectified within an hour's time.
As per the GMRC official, the construction going on at Thaltej village is part of phase-1 of the Ahmedabad metro rail project.
The guy rope, which is the tensioned cable that provides stability to the pillar, got unfastened when a tempo passed by causing the leaning of the pillar.
Police and fire department personnel were present the spot to check for imminent danger to residents. Meanwhile despite heavy heavy rain, people came onto the road to look at the sight.
Moreover, in a bid to completing a 40 km stretch of the metro, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) team was expected to arrive in Ahmedabad on August 20 to inspect operations on the route.
