KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Only one point separates Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings.
  • One of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will finish 4th and seal the final Champions League qualification spot.
  • The final gameday of the Premier League has some decisive battles scheduled.
The English Premier League is headed towards a dramatic last-day finish, with the league title and the last Champions League spot yet to be determined. Just one point separates the top two – Manchester City and Liverpool – while the 4th spot on the points table will be determined between North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
It's been an intriguing season for Liverpool who are still in the quadruple hunt. Manchester City have had the lead on the top of the Premier League standings for a long time but the Reds have consistently been reducing the deficit.
Arsenal, on the other hand, looked set to finish 4th in the league standings before losing their last two games against Tottenham and Newcastle. They are now 5th in the points table, 2 points behind 4th-placed Spurs.
Premier League title scenario:
Manchester City and Liverpool – the two contenders – take on Aston Villa and Wolves respectively. A victory over Norwich would see the Cityzens lift the Premier League title directly. Such a result would see them finish the season with 93 points while second-placed Liverpool can have a maximum of 92.
However, if Man City draw against Villa and Liverpool beat Wolves, it would be Juergen Klopp's men who would topple the Cityzens and be crowned the 'Champions of England'.
If Pep Guardiola's men lose against Villa and Liverpool can only secure a draw against Wolves, Manchester City would go on to lift the title on the basis of better goal difference. Man City have a GD of 72 while Liverpool have a GD of 66.
Champions League qualification scenario:
Only the 4h spot and final Champions League spot is yet to be determined. Newcastle United have done Spurs a huge favour by defeating Arsenal in their last fixture. Tottenham's next opponents are Norwich City who are placed bottom of the league standings at present with just 5 wins the entire season under their belt.
A victory or a draw against Norwich would be enough for Antonio Conte's men to secure Champions League football next season. In comparison, Arsenal don't just have to beat Everton in their final match of the season but also hope for Spurs to lose the contest.
As far as the probability is concerned, Spurs are big favourites to secure Champions League football next season while it would be another campaign in the Europa League for the Gunners.
