Ram Gopal Varma is often known for mincing his words and taking to social media platforms to share his bold and controversial statements. As of today, the director-producer gave his take on one of India's biggest films KGF. The film was released on April 14 and broke all the records at the box office.
The film starred superstar Yash who literally came and conquered the stage. Helmed by Prashanth Neel, KGF is a two-part movie series that revolves around the story of Rocky (Yash), an orphan rising from poverty to become the king of the gold mines. The sequel of the movie also includes Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Prakash Raj, Malavika Avinash, and Srinidhi Shetty, among others.
During a conversation with an online portal. Ram talked about how in the Hindi cinema industry “nobody” liked this movie, and they were confused about what to do next after its massive success. He told Hindustan Times, “A very big director of Bollywood told me, ‘Ramu, I tried to watch it 5 times but I couldn’t go beyond half an hour. He then got back to working on the script for his next film. While arguing over a scene, his scriptwriter reasoned, ‘But this kind of scene worked in KGF: Chapter 2, right?’! There’s a line in Hollywood, ‘You can argue with content, but you can’t argue with success!' Hence, whether or not you liked it, you can’t ignore its success.”
Moving on, he further added, “Two films that have f**ked up everything are KGF - Chapter 2 and The Kashmir Files. They are the opposite ends of the spectrum. The scary part of KGF – Chapter 2 is that nobody in Bollywood liked it. When a film you didn’t like does such numbers, you’ll be confused and you don’t know what to do.”
Talking about the film, KGF: Chapter 2 emerged as the Most Popular Indian Film of 2022, which earned more than Rs 430 crore at the box office and in the Hindi version alone. According to the reports, the film is also registered as the most successful film of all time after Bahubali: The Conclusion.
The film was released in all five languages Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
