Jharkhand: 'WhatsApp group Wasseypur Gang used to gather crowd for June 10 protests'; heavy security in Ranchi

Ranchi: Jharkhand capital continued to remain tense on Monday as heavy police force remains deployed at Karbala Chowk and other regions to arrest the accused involved in the June 10 violent incidents. Meanwhile, Times Now has learnt that WhatsApp group named 'Wasseypur Gang' was used to mobilise people for the June 10 protests. The police are now searching for the admin of the group.
In order to maintain peace, the government has deployed Rapid Action Force, anti-terrorism squad, special task force and cops at strategic locations across the state.
Jharkhand remains tense after two people died during the violent protest that erupted in Ranchi after Friday prayers on June 10. The protests were held against the controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad made by now suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal.
The police informed that one person has been accused and 16 others detained till now. The identification process is underway. Necessary actions taken against identified accused, it further said.
The government imposed a curfew in Ranchi after protests erupted and incidents of stone-pelting and torching of several vehicles and vandalisation were reported.
To bring the situation under control, the administration imposed a curfew and suspended all Internet services temporarily suspended in Ranchi till 6 am of June 11.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered a high-level probe into the violence incidents. Senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal and Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Sanjay Latkar will be probing the incidents.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also set up to probe the incident, Ranchi's Deputy Inspector General Anish Gupta said.
"Three FIRs have been lodged so far. Search operations are on to arrest the persons involved in the violence," he said.
It may be noted that protests broke out in several states including, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir on June 10.
