The cast and crew of Ponniyin Selvan - I are presently occupied with the promotion of the masterpiece. The team just finished up the film's South India promotions. Along with the film's director Mani Ratnam and the music director AR Rahman, the Ponniyin Selvan cast, which included lead actors Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha Krishnan, held a press conference in Mumbai.
Karthi recalled a humorous story about seeing Aamir Khan's Rangeela in college while speaking with the press. He shared, “I would clearly remember Rangeela. You know, we went there to watch ‘Tanha Tanha’, we booked three shows back-to-back, and we were running inside the theatre.”
He further added, “And we had to be thrown out. But we got the tickets for the next show and we came back. So, Tanha Tanha – like Aamir Khan sir, Rahman sir’s music (humming the tune). I can never forget it. If you play that music, I will go back to my college days”
Chiyaan Vikram also remembered seeing Tere Naam, which starred Salman Khan. For those who are unaware, Tere Naam is the authorised remake of Sethu, the 1999 movie with Vikram in the lead role. The actor had his first significant break in Tamil cinema thanks to the Bala-directed film.
Talking about Ponniyin Selvan - I, it is directed by Mani Ratnam. Karthi plays Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, the orphaned prince of the Vana clan, in the film. One of the most adored characters from Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan book is Vanthiyathevan. Aditya Karikalan, the crown prince, is portrayed by Chiyaan Vikram.
The future ruler, Arumozhi Varma, also known as Raja Chozha, is played by Jayam Ravi. Princess Kundavai Devi is played by Trisha Krishnan, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays the double role of Nandini and Mandakini. Ponniyin Selvan I is all set to hit the theatres on September 30.
