Goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo had a forgetful day at the office as minnows Brentford crushed Manchester United in the English Premier League (EPL) season 2022-2023 on Saturday. Newly-appointed Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag recorded his second-straight defeat of the new season at the Gtech Community Stadium. Extending Man United's dreadful run in the new season, Thomas Frank-coached Brentford registered a monumental 4-0 win over the Red Devils in the English top flight.
With Brentford humiliating the Premier League giants in their backyard, veteran striker Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure as the former Real Madrid superstar refused to acknowledge the travelling fans after the full-time whistle. Nicknamed CR7, the former Juventus striker also reportedly opted to snub Man United manager Ten Hag after Manchester United's demoralising defeat at the hands of Brentford.
According to a report filed by Metro.co.uk, Ronaldo ignored Steve McClaren's request to applaud the away fans at Brentford. According to the report, the Man United No.2 appeared to have urged Ronaldo to acknowledge the away fans at the Gtech Community Stadium. Not only did Ronaldo turn down McClaren's request but CR7 also ignored manager Ten Hag and went straight down the tunnel.
Ronaldo, who is in speculations about leaving Old Trafford, was frustrated after the 20-time English champions recorded a 4-0 defeat at Brentford. The 4-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford has forced the Red Devils to settle with the last spot in the English Premier League rankings. For the first time in 30 years, Man United are placed 20th in the Premier League standings.
Man United have also lost seven back-to-back away matches for the first time in the English top flight since 1936. "Brentford were more hungry. We conceded goals from individual mistakes. You can't have a tactical plan but then put it in the bin. After 35 minutes we conceded four goals. This is not possible. The team has to take the responsibility, I feel really sorry for the fans who did everything to support us, we let them down," the Man United manager told reporters after the match.
