New Delhi: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), on Wednesday, wrote to UK Prime Minister Liz Truss seeking action against the 'continued violence against Hindus in Leicester and Birmingham by Islamic extremists'. In a letter to Truss, VHP said that it is 'deeply concerned and alarmed' at the ongoing violence in Leicester against the Hindus and their places of worship.
"Several Hindus have been assaulted, and some of them have also been admitted to the hospital... Hindus are being terrorised to remove symbols of their heritage, tradition, culture and religion...," the letter stated.
VHP also urged Truss to take immediate action to protect Hindu lives and said that a strong punitive action must be taken against those involved in such hate crimes. Meanwhile, the UK Police have arrested 47 people in connection with the violence in the eastern England city of Leicester. following the violence, the Indian High Commission in London also issued a strongly-worded statement condemning the vandalism targetting the Indian community in the city.

"We will not stand for this unrest in our city. There is an extensive policing operation ongoing, acting on information and reports of gatherings and offering community reassurance. Be reassured: we are working to keep you safe and to arrest and bring to justice those that are causing harm in our communities," Rob Nixon, Temporary Chief Constable at Leicestershire Police said, news agency PTI reported.
India has strongly protested against the attacks against the Indian community and taken up the mattter with the UK authorities. Meanwhile, the Hindu Council UK said that the Hindu temples in the city are a place of worship and should not be disrespected.
