Anthony Fauci, who steered US' response to COVID-19, to step down as chief medical advisor to US President in December

Washington DC: Dr Anthony Fauci, US' top infectious disease expert, who has been at the epicenter of America's COVID-19 response, as well as in its fight against HIV/AIDS, on Monday announced that he will retire by year-end to pursue the next chapter in his career. Biden praised Fauci and said that the US was stronger, more resilient, and healthier because of Fauci.
"Dr Anthony Fauci will be stepping down as chief medical advisor to US President Joe Biden in December. He said he'll step down from his positions as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases & as chief medical adviser to President Biden," Reuters reported.
He has touched all Americans' lives with his work: Biden
Fauci, who serves as US President Joe Biden's chief medical officer, led the US through its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and has also been the leader to US' response to HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases before the COVID-19 pendemic. Adding that the roles he served in, were an 'honor of a lifetime', Fauci said that he will be 'leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter' of his career.
In a statement, US President Biden praised Fauci and said that he touched Americans' lives with his work. "Whether you've met him personally or not, he has touched all Americans' lives with his work. I extend my deepest thanks for his public service. The United States of America is stronger, more resilient, and healthier because of him," Biden said in a statement.
