On Tuesday, Angelina Jolie travelled to Pakistan to aid those impacted by the country's flooding and heavy rains. The actor, who has served as the UN's Special Envoy for Refugees since 2011, met the victims in person. She was seen greeting people and conversing with them in videos and images posted by fan accounts on Instagram.
According to the Associated Press, the floods that struck Pakistan in the middle of June have killed hundreds of people, destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, and rendered half a million people homeless. Angelina reportedly checked in at one of the worst-affected districts, Dadu, where waterborne illnesses have killed nearly 300 people since July.
Fans of Angelina complimented her for her contribution to the community. "Respect," one of her admirers wrote. One more fan remarked, "Bless her beautiful soul." "Heart winning lady," a third person wrote. Many of her followers dropped heart and clap emojis.
As part of the relief efforts, Angelina had previously travelled to Pakistan in 2005 and 2010 after it had been struck by devastating earthquakes and floods.
The actor would be visiting Pakistan's flood-affected areas, according to a previous statement by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a non-profit organisation with US headquarters. According to the press release, she would visit with families face-to-face to better understand their needs and choose the best course of action for assisting them in rehabilitation and rebuilding. According to IRC, the actor will visit local organisations helping displaced individuals, particularly Afghan refugees, as well as their emergency response activities.
