Govt Hits The Break On Mandatory 6 Airbags; Rule Deferred By a Year | Business News

Did you know that India reports the highest number of road fatalities in the world about 11% of all global raod accidents occur here!!! Despite these harsh statistics, the govt today has decided to defer the mandatory 6 air bag rule for cars by a year. Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkar in a series of tweets said the proposal will now come into effect from October 1, 2023.The minister cited global supply chain constraints faced by the auto industry as one of the reasons for the deferrement. Another interesting fact is that barely 10% of cars on Indian roads actually have 6 airbags fitted.Yes, there is the fact that adding airbags will incresae costs. But can we really compromise of passenger safety and to what extent?
