Indian singer Shaan, who shared a close bond with KK and his family, has expressed grief over the passing of the Pal singer. Shaan says losing KK was like losing a part of him. KK breathed his last on May 31.
"KK was very very close to home. Losing KK was like losing a part of me. I have a lot of dear friends and it would have hurt me as much but jab humumar... jab Wajid gaya I wasn't prepared, you can never be prepared but Wajid was even younger than me I never expected that and he wasn't keeping well, but this was so sudden," he told Zoom TV Digital in an exclusive interview.
"But he would have loved to settle his children, loved to do so much more. We would have loved to hear him so much more, he was at the peak of his singing and live performances and he was killing it. It's sad," he said.
Talking about the deaths of Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahri, Shaan said that one thinks some people are eternal, but after the passing away of his mother, Shaan accepted that everyone has to go someday.
Apart from their personal equation, Shaan had also worked with KK for many of their hit songs. Some of their most memorable songs include Koi Kahe, Time To Disco, Dus Bahane, O Jaana, Aankhon Mein Teri and Golmaal among others.
Asked about his fondest memory of KK, Shaan got emotional and said, "I have had more hit songs with him than any other co-singer. And I have done more shows with KK than any other co-artist. I have spent more time with him than any other singer from the fraternity, so we have a lot of memories, warm times together, and I hold them close to my heart," adding, "I have lost a lot of close people over the years, so mujhe yehi dar lagta hai kisi ke kareeb aata hu... it's crazy..."
After KK's unfortunate death in Kolkata, the discussion about arrangements at live concerts has gained momentum. The singer reportedly took ill soon after his performance at a college event and collapsed in his hotel room. Asked about his take on whether there should be more proper arrangements at live events, Shaan said it should always have been this way.
"There are so many arrangements. When you want to take permission to do a show, every event company has a set of guidelines they need to follow when you put in a bigger crowd. But over the years, these things have happened in the past and I am sure they will happen again in the future," he said.
For an artist, Shaan says, when they see a huge audience, it just excites them. "If you are a real performer, you love it. There's nothing you can do about it. Kabhi hum city se andar jaake kisi gaon mei tamboo lagaake show kar rahe hai, paisa mila hai, perform toh karna padega. Waha jaake dekhte hai ki ye nahi wo nahi hai ab aap kya karege, itne saare log aaye hai waha. Do they go back disapointed? So a lot of times, you have to compromise for the show," he explained.
As for KK, Shaan added that somewhere, it was his personal health also that he overlooked. "That's also important. You have to keep yourself fit, and while he was fit, wo heart ka situation tha," he said. The Tanha Dil singer also added that his family, especially his kids, were after him to get his health checkup done after KK's demise. He also got a checkup done after his friend Raj Kaushal passed away. "Wahi hai, jo hona hai wo hona hai," he said on the sidelines of the shoot of Star Bharat's Swayamvar - Mika Di Vohti.
Asked if he has any sorts of fear before getting on the stage next, given the way he lost his dear friend, Shaan says that one can't afford to do that. "No no, I am bouncing, dancing and jumping. For an artist, being on stage is bliss, it's the best time of your life.. And if you go there with any apprehension or negative thoughts, then you are losing out on the best time of your life. You can't afford to do, I would never do that," he said.
