India's encounters with Ireland have often seen some new players being given the opportunity to test themselves on the international circuit. During the T20I series between India and Ireland in 2018, it was MS Dhoni who was rested for the 2nd T20I, with Dinesh Karthik getting the nod for the role behind the stumps.
While Dhoni wasn't an active part of the match, he still managed to make his presence felt. Not content just sitting on the bench, Dhoni turned into the waterboy for the match and arrived in the middle of the field to hand refreshments to his teammates.
As soon as Dhoni came, the crowd erupted with joy and the incident immediately became a talking point on social media. The chatter of MS Dhoni's humility gained plenty of momentum as fans couldn't stop hailing the veteran wicket-keeper batsman.
“Look who is carrying drinks for @ImRaina . @msdhoni will and forever remain a role model for any youngsters . #Respect #INDvIRE,” tweeted one Twitter user.
Batting first, India had posted a total of 213 runs on the board, with KL Rahul (70 off 36) and Suresh Raina (69 off 45) doing the bulk of the damage with the bat.
Chasing the gigantic target, none of the Irish batters could even go past the 15-run mark. The Kul-Cha pair of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav bagged three wickets each while Umesh Yadav, Siddharth Kaul and Hardik Pandya were also among wickets.
In the end, the hosts could only manage to put 70 runs on the board before they were bowled out.
As the Indian team gears up for the tour of Ireland in 2022, expect a number of rookie players to get the nod in the playing XI. In comparison to the 2018 squad, only Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar and Dinesh Karthik are the players who will be a part of the Indian unit.
