'Mud monsters': Elephants take fully-submerged mud bath in Kenya

Three rescued orphan elephants — Rokka, Mayan and Vaarti were seen taking a fully-submerged mud bath in a heartwarming clip shared by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust on Twitter. “Manda, [the] 4th member of the quartet, chose to stay dry & drink water from the hose!,” the post said. With no sweat glands to lose the heat, elephants use the cooler mud to regulate body temperature. But mud baths serve another purpose — skincare. When a protective layer of mud settles on elephants’ skin, it keeps insects and sunburns away.Video credit: Sheldrick Trust
