Mumbai: In a diary confiscated from Shiv Sena corporator Yashwant Jadhav, the Income Tax Department has found a suspicious payment made in favour of 'Matoshree', which is also the name of the Thackeray residence in Bandra.
Jadhav made a payment of Rs 10 crore in cash to acquire tenancy rights in his residential building and another Rs 2 crore marked as 'Matoshree' last year on Gudi Padwa, said a media report.
The IT Department is also investigating a Rs 15 crore payment to a shell company, which was routed back to a company belonging to Jadhav's close aide Bimal Agrawal. According to sources, the money was used by Jadhav to purchase a hotel and a building that had tenants and operated on a pagdi system.
During interrogation, Jadhav reportedly told the IT Department that the name 'Matoshree' marked in the diary meant his mother. He received Rs 2 crore in a donation and had used it for the distribution of gifts on Gudi Padwa, the Maharashtrian new year.
As per sources, the department has found both the replies unsatisfactory.
It should be noted that Bimal Agarwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a few years ago and then by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Reportedly, he got different contracts of BMC worth Rs 30 crore during the pandemic with the help of Jadhav, sources said.
BMC allotted contracts through bidding, and Yashwant Jadhav was not allowing anyone else to bid for work in Byculla area, from where his wife Yamini Jadhav is MLA, IT sources said.
