Independence Day 2022: 1,082 police personnel awarded medals for gallantry, good services

The recipients have been awarded with medals including Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) and Police Medal for Meritorious Services (PMMS), the ministry said. Among the 1,082 policemen, 347 personnel have received Police Medal for Gallantry, 87 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 648 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.

New Delhi: The Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Sunday awarded 1,082 police personnel from CAPFs and state forces with various categories of service medals, including for gallant action on the eve of Independence Day, which will be observed on Monday.
The recipients have been awarded with medals including Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) and Police Medal for Meritorious Services (PMMS), the ministry said.
Among the 1,082 policemen, 347 personnel have received Police Medal for Gallantry, 87 President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 648 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.
Among the 347 recipients of Gallantry Awards, 204 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir, 80 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremism affected areas and 14 personnel for their gallant action in North-East Region, MHA said in a statement.
The maximum gallantry medals at 109 have been received by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) followed by 19 to the Border Security Force (BSF) and six each to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the ministry stated.
Among the state police forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, led by DGP Dilbagh Singh, has been awarded the maximum number of medals, 108 among all the states and Union Territories. As many as 42 gallantry medals have been given to Maharashtra, 15 to Chhattisgarh and the remaining from the other States/UTs and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), it said.
Among the 42 personnel awarded with the gallantry medals in Maharashtra, as many as 41 belong to the police force of Gadchiroli, a Maoist-affected district. Of these, PSI Dhanaji Honmane, head constable Jagdeo Madavi and Kishore Atram, who were martyred in an operation against Maoists, have been awarded with the gallantry medals posthumously.
Of the total 87 police personnel, who have been awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with six medals, followed by Madhya Pradesh with four. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu shared the third spot with three medals each.
