KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Charlotte Dean was run out by Deepti Sharma at the non-striker end
  • The win saw India winning the 3rd ODI
  • After the game, Monty Panesar has backed Team India
Even a day after the Lord's ODI between India and England at Lord's, the debate surrounding the spirit of the game is on and the cricketers are sharing their take on what happened at the end. In the 44th over, Deepti Sharma ran out Charlotte Dean, who was way out of her crease at the non-striker end.
Deepti spotted Charlotte leaving her crease early more than once and she decided to make full use of the rules after coming on to bowl. Her actions have drawn mixed reactions, with England cricket community opining that she didn't do the best by running out the non-striker.
The Indian cricket fraternity has come out in full support of Deepti and stated the rules, which allow the bowler to run out the non-striker if he /she is out of the crease. Alex Hales has also come out in support of Team India.
Amid the ongoing debate, former England spinner Monty Panesar has also backed India and said that you can be run out in this way if it's in the rules. He then went on to share a video of MS Dhoni, which was tweeted by a user to Monty's post.
In the video, Dhoni can be seen giving a perfect masterclass on how not to get run out at the other end. During an IPL 2019 fixture between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, Dhoni can be seen walking out of the crease while Krunal was bowling but his bat stayed steady inside the crease.
Kunal, for whatever reason, did not bowl the delivery and the replays show that Dhoni kept his bat in the crease till the final second. It was a perfect masterclass for those who get out of their crease early.
A few days before Krunal's actions, R Ashwin had run out Jos Buttler at the non-striker end. Buttler was dismissed in the same fashion against Sri Lanka in 2014 as well.
